KETNIPZ

The “Bean” character is the central focus of Ketnipz’s work, and is frequently used to depict and convey emotions, but in an unassuming and almost natural way - despite it being a cartoon. The appearance of the Bean is purposely kept minimal and clean-cut, which helps maintain the calm aesthetic, but was also chosen as to keep the character from being over-expressive and off-putting.

Online, the Bean is seen as a relatable and familiar face to a large audience of followers, and often gets involved in typical annoying day-to-day scenarios. Whether it’s waiting to long for spaghetti, or drowning in paperwork, the Bean can’t escape the struggles of daily life, much like any other person. But, despite all of it’s shortcomings, the Bean tries it’s best to keep smiling.

KETNIPZ X INSTAGRAM

As the Bean’s fanbase grew, Instagram took notice and linked up with Ketnipz to share his beloved character with their users. Together, they created a series of stickers using the Bean that could be shared by all Instagram users via their stories and posts.

“It’s pretty surreal having a company like Instagram (the company that you’ve based your whole livelihood on) reach out over DMs and ask to collaborate,” he said. “For a long while I was just lost for words. It makes you realized that you never know what might be around the corner!”

KETNIPZ’S “DINNER WITH BEAN” AT ART PALM BEACH 2019

Most recently, art collectors and Hambley’s cult of Ketnipz enthusiasts, could find his illustrations and paintings at Art Palm Beach, inside The Art Plug Power House, with an activation titled “Dinner With Bean” displaying his “Comfort Food” series in both print and sculptural form.

“Recently I’ve had a lot of fun drawing Bean alongside some of my favorite foods, such as pizza, ravioli, and toasties, but those foods are giant in comparison to the tiny Bean! So, naturally I wanted to continue this series by bringing the comfort food collection to life in 3-D, at Art Palm Beach with the help of the Art Plug team.”

Palm Beach crowds saw a white dining room table fit for 8, arranged for a formal dinner dressed with plates, silverware, candles, and a fireplace mantle. Each plate had highlighted sculptures of Hambley’s signature Bean in a bowl of tomato soup or caught in an oversized pink, sprinkled donut.
